

THE JT MAKEUP STUDIO
We are a creative hub based in Millside House just outside Leeds, West Yorkshire with close access to the M1 & M62. The JT Makeup Studio offers support to all hair & makeup artists with inspiration, confidence, clarity, intensive training, industry masterclasses, pop up and networking events. We provide an extensive range of training courses suitable for all levels plus access to innovative artists, products and makeup companies. Working with the makeup communities and state education establishments we aim to bridge the training requirements for an ever changing industry.
We have a well equipped makeup studio, rest area facilities including a variety of refreshments, use of a microwave & fridge. There is also a research area with a well stocked library of makeup, art, fashion, photography and historical books. In addition to this we have an archive of Vogue, Vogue Italia, Makeup Artist, WarPaint and Illusion Body Painting Magazines

Julia Townend
Julia Townend is a Makeup, Body Artist & established Educator providing courses for the makeup industry from a creative hub called the JT Makeup Studio.

Initially working in London in the 1990's in the fashion industry at LFW, Julia now works mainly as a freelance daily hair/makeup artist in Film & TV throughout the UK and Europe. Julia has over 25 years of experience of the Makeup Industry & worked incredibly hard to achieve her goals. The benefit of her knowledge of the Makeup Industry is exemplary.
Julia's teaching career began at the prestigious London College of Fashion which then progressed to developing the Makeup Programmes at West Thames College in West London. Through her vision and leadership West Thames became an award winning Higher Education Course at an international level with students gaining scholarships at the National Theatre, BBC Vision Traineeship and winning makeup competitions consecutively at IMATS & the World Body Painting Championships.
Julia is passionate about good training, mentoring and supporting new entrants into the Makeup Industry. She is a qualified teacher & assessor (PGCert for Higher Education) actively working as an external consultant on new course validations. In 2010 Julia was awarded a National Training Award (Greater London Region) for her dedication to teaching and the international success of the Makeup programmes at West Thames College.
Julia is a firm believer in "giving back" and has had collaborations with various charities including The Katie Piper Foundation, My Makeover/Lee Pycroft and Batley & Spen Youth Theatre on a production of Les Miserables held in honour of the MP Jo Cox.
Published editorial collaborations include body art in the “Art of Male Makeup” book and career based interviews in Warpaint and Two Magazine. Additionally Julia is a guest speaker at the UMAE, Olympia Beauty & WarPaint events. From 2013 - 2019 Julia was the joint Head Judge on the BrushWars Makeup & Body Painting Competition with Nicci Jackson at Olympia Beauty.

In 2013 Julia launched the JT Makeup range of products that are stocked at Screenface London, PAM London, Love Makeup & The Makeup Armoury. Finally after many years of living in London in 2017, she decided to relocate back to her hometown Leeds, West Yorkshire. So began the journey to create the JT Makeup Studio, a creative hub for the north of England.
